Wordgleāw (pronounced word-glue) is an Anglo-Saxon word, meaning skilful with language. It is also the name of a card game designed to help learn foreign languages in an easy and enjoyable way. From absolute beginners to hardy scholars, this game is fun for all the family.
The game is simple. It is similar to the traditional card game Rummy, but instead of using a regular deck, it consists of eighty cards, each of which has a word, phrase, or place name on it. The aim of the game is not to collect ‘three of one four of another’ like Rummy, but instead, a grammatically correct (though often silly) sentence. For instance ‘My – Snail – Wants – Cheese’, or ‘I – Eat – Spinach – On – The Isle of Wight’.
